As my first year in the PhD
program looms, I can feel my anxiety building. It’s like someone has
planted a bomb in my heart
and it’s just sitting there in my chest, squeezing and ticking away. I’ve
been having some actual panic
attacks lately (something I haven’t had in a long time). If you’ve never
experienced a panic attack,
it feels like your chest is getting tighter and tighter, like all the air has
gone
out of the room. And this is
why Kyle is my hero, for sitting through these with me, for holding my
hand, for breathing with me,
for helping me to focus long enough to get out of the loop.
If life is like
walking a
tightrope in a circus,
the crowd below just waiting for me to fall, then being
married
to Kyle
is like the safety
net below me.
It’s the difference between falling and going SPLAT
and
falling
and being caught.
After
almost seven years together,
thank you, Kyle, for still catching me, for not
letting me go SPLAT.
What about you? What has your relationship done or been for YOU?
love, elizabeth
PS: Check back soon for pictures from my office makeover! I’m pretty stoked.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI've been married for 40 years this December and I've always said my husband is my soft place to land...sort of like keeping me from going splat. Life will be beautiful even in the valleys when you support and love each other as the two of you do.
Hugs~
Aww, this is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my hubby. He amazes me every day with how patient, understanding, and supportive he is. He's such a better person than me, but I'm a better person because of him.
Awwww Elizabeth...that's such a sweet post. I think since meeting my husband...i've learned to use my voice in areas where i am usually quiet. He totally inspires me!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an adorable post! So glad that you have found your love!
ReplyDeleteYou will not go SPLAT, I promise! :) You will do just fine in your program. And I'm glad Kyle has been there to catch and comfort you. :)
ReplyDeleteHave you had grad school nightmares yet? I sure did! I'm done with my 2nd week of school and love it! So far no splatting for me! You'll do great! :)

I'm telling you - I love that boy!
ReplyDeleteAnd PhD - we will see you soon on the other side of it and you will do blessedly well. God has directed you, He will keep and lead you. And Kyle - well, he is the gift God gave you especially for the times you FEAR falling and going "splat". But for all most wonderful times of your life too.
I love Kyle. Did I say that already?
Ahhh... I love this post. Congratulations on getting your PhD. I know it's scary, but it will be so worth it.
