do you like scarves?

So does Sarah. In fact, she likes scarves so much she invested an entire post on it. An she has a special guest star modeling some of her favorite accessories. It’s one of my favorite things on the blogs today and I think you will like it. Go visit!

If you’re one of the eight humans in the United States of America who has not been notified, today is the day that we will elect the president. You should probably vote. Unless you’re a felon. Or a small child. You will not be allowed to vote if you are a small child. I don’t know why there haven’t been more ads informing you about this.

Mad for Madigan: On Cats

If you met my pomeranian, you'd understand why she needs her own weekly post. Every week or two, Madigan discusses a topic weighing on her brain. And if you don't think dogs have stuff on their minds, well...you don't own a dog.

Dear Readers:
Today I’m talking about acceptance. And, in an effort to be more accepting of difference, I’ve invited my two cat friends (what? I have cat friends!), Pippin and Leo, to guest blog with me today. Check it out…

 Pippin

Leo 68739_799322239753_9219862_42525761_1531659_n[1]

Madigan: So dudes, uh, thanks for being here today.

Pippin: Good to be here.

Leo: What kind of cat are you?

Madigan: I think I speak for all my readers when I ask, what the heck is up with cat-lovers? I mean, c’mon…what makes cats so great? You guys don’t really believe all your own press, do you?

Pippin: Cats are chill, not clingy or annoying. Unlike SOME pets I know.

Madigan: Chill? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Pippin: Cats do their own thing. We’re independent. We don’t need you. You need us. And as we all know, whoever needs less in a relationship has all the power. Yeah.

Leo: This is boring. Where are the treats?

Pippin: Also, cats are sophisticated. We clean ourselves. We toilet indoors -in designated areas, thank you- and we appreciate the silence. We’re athletic, agile, graceful. We can fit in small spaces and reach great heights while lesser animals are earth-bound. Deal with it.

Leo: I’m cute. Pet me!

Pippin: Yes, thank you, Leo, for that riveting contribution. Next question, please.

Madigan: It seems like more and more pets are getting hip to the world wide web. We have Dogbook, Catbook, Dogster…even the vets are going virtual now! How do you two feel about this phenomenon?

Leo: I like to tweet.

Pippin: I used to tweet but I've forgotten my password. Twitter is so 2010.

Madigan: Well, it's certainly a great way to keep up with your fans.

Leo: I like to tweet.

Madigan: I think I’m just about out of blog space for the day. I’d like to remind readers that they can follow all three of us pets on twitter. To follow Pippin, go HERE. To follow Leo, click HERE. To follow me, Madigan, visit HERE.

In case anyone’s curious, Pippin and Leo are the pets of Sarah over at Saracastically. I myself am not open-minded enough yet to live with a cat and fortunately for me, Mom is allergic. Haha.
What about you? Like cats? Hate them? Are YOU a cat? If so, what are you doing on the computer? Share your thoughts below…

Love and kibble,
Madigan

Sign of the Times Saturday: Link Up

I’m linking up with Sarah over at Sarahcastically today!

I’m trying to get better at carrying my camera with me in case I see something interesting/hilarious. This was written on the third floors stairs in the English building on the university campus. I don’t know if the author was being encouraging or sarcastic but I’ll take what I can get. I climbed these stairs almost every day for five weeks and I smiled every time I saw the words.

Stranded with Sarah: Captain America Can Save Me Any Time

So this is a late post. I’m running on about three hours of sleep, three shots of espresso, and about three million jolts of post-wedding adrenaline. Lots to post about that next week!

For those of you who missed her last post, Sarah is once again writing to us from the desert island where she has been marooned for the last month. Let’s check in to see how she’s doing…

stranded2

[Dear] Elizabeth,

I'm going to assume that my previous plea for help was misdirected somehow and that is why I'm still stuck out here on this island. I can't think of any other reason. I've been exploring a little bit though, and while walking around in the jungle I found this weird door in the ground. It's almost like a hatch or something. There's a little window in it, but I can't see anything. Gotta be something down there though. And there are these numbers on the door - no clue what those are about.

Anyway, if you're feeling generous, it'd be great if you could send me some of this stuff, because I got bored with what you sent last time. That's what happens when you're stranded on a desert island with nothing to do but bang on a door in the ground, which I only do when I'm not sitting here sobbing over the fact that my best friend is ignoring my desperate cries for help. But whatever... as long as you get a blog post out of it, right? Please send me…

1. Bossypants by Tina Fey. If you haven't read this book... you aren't a bad person, but you are on your way to becoming one. Just kidding, kind of. I may not really be into 30 Rock anymore, but Tina Fey is still on the whole pretty flawless. This book is fantastic and empowering. Reading it again would be pretty encouraging right now.  Plus it will tide me over until Mindy Kaling's book comes out in the fall, and until the time comes that Amy Poehler finally writes a book.

2. Recently there was a free iTunes sample of the week of a song called "Lady Luck" by Jamie Woon. It's kinda Justin Timberlakey and I liked that about it, so I got the whole album, which is called Mirrorwriting. Pretty chill and interesting music... the people on iTunes reviewed it saying it's "creepy cool." Which, okay, I guess. I like to listen to this album while I'm writing.

This video is not about a single thing. It's just him riding subways and taking taxis. Very hipster and boring. Try a little harder next time, Mr. Woon.

By the way, I've already finished like three full length feature scripts and a couple TV pilots since I've been here. That's how much free time I have. So there's that at least.

3. Captain America. NOT the movie. The guy. I was just thinking that it'd be nice if I had someone here with me to help me figure out how to get off this island, since you're apparently not interested in helping with that. And he'd probably be able to just rip that hatch open with his strong and beautiful arms.

Exhibit A

Exhibit B (proper island attire)

Anyway, get on that. Hopefully I won't starve to death before this stuff arrives. Really getting sick of coconuts. Though, I have been hunting boar. You know what, I'll probably be fine.

Stranded with Sarah: a digital media review

My friend Sarah was recently marooned on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the interest of the blog (and my own curiosity), I asked her to share about that experience with us. And since she's probably going to be stuck there for awhile, we can probably make this a monthly thing. Read on to hear her thoughts...

Dear Elizabeth,

I'm very glad that you are at home, or at the library, or at your
favorite little hipster cafe with your laptop, drinking your
caffeinated drink, while I sit out here on my desert island with
absolutely nothing to do. I'm also very glad that you finally found
where I was, and that rather than sending someone to rescue me
immediately, you opted to make me write a post for your little blog
about my experiences. "What's it REALLY like to be stranded on a
desert island, Sarah? Let's get to the bottom of this."

Unfortunately for you, I am not interested in playing that game.
Instead, this letter will be me DEMANDING for some things that I would
really love to have out here, just so I can, you know, pass the time
while I starve to death. Amazingly I have a computer to type this on,
as well as wifi to email it to you and a power outlet to make sure my
laptop doesn't die. Which also means that I have a CD and DVD player,
so don't let any of your blog readers get smart with me on that count.
This is a super weird island, okay, don't ask questions. The outlet is
at the base of the palm tree.

First of all, please send me a copy of  Oh the Glory of It All by Sean Wilsey.
This is my favorite book of all time, and I greatly desire to
reread it. It's a memoir by this dude named... Sean Wilsey... and it's
about... his life... okay look, he had famous parents and they were
ridiculous and made him deal with a bunch of ridiculous things when he
was growing up in San Francisco in the 80s. It's really well written
and if you like stuff  by Dave Eggers, you will probably like this
book.  Not that YOU will ever read it, Elizabeth, because you never
read any books I recommend to you. Except for The Hunger Games. But
that's one book recommendation. And you only read THAT because I
actually bought it for you and sent the physical copy to your
apartment. One book in more than ten years of friendship.

Hey, so how long do we have to be friends before you'll come rescue me
off a desert island? Just wondering.

Next, please send me a copy of Ellie Goulding's album Lights. I have
really been digging this one lately. I mean, I WAS digging it. Before
I mysteriously wound up out here on this island. This album is full of
fun dancey music that makes me happy, which I need badly these days,
what with being STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND and all. Seriously though,
Ellie Goulding is great. Not so much live, but nobody's perfect. Also,
by the way, I dig things now. Literally. That's what happens when you
get stranded on a desert island and don't have any fresh water.

Finally, I'd really appreciate it if you could get me all five seasons
of Friday Night Lights on DVD. That will tide me over until the next
time you force me to write a blog post about something. Not like I
even need to explain this one, but FNL is a flawless and amazing show
that will make even the most shriveled black dead heart feel alive
again. (Not that I'm naming names, Elizabeth.) And for all your snobby
blog readers who might be all, "ew, Friday Night Lights, isn't that
about football, no thank you," please make sure they are aware that
this show does not require an interest in football to fall in love
with it. And anyway, as Coach says... you do love football, you just
don't know it yet.

I hope that's good enough for your little blog, Elizabeth. In addition
to these items, FOOD AND WATER would be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile
I'll just be over here sitting underneath my palm tree, licking the
inside of the only coconut I was able to crack open for nourishment,
praying I don't die from sun stroke.

Love,
Sarah
