Thrifty Outfit Post

If you read this blog, you know I’m not so great at the outfit posts. In fact, I’ve never done one before. But I do love to thrift and most of my clothes are secondhand. I don’t think feeling pretty in your clothes needs to cost much. So I thought I might share a recent find (my Easter dress!) with you…I hope it inspires you to find the cheap-o fashionista inside of you!

I’m super drawn to bright colors and contrasting textures. I have been eyeing this belt for awhile now and miraculously, no one had purchased it yet. Usually when I fail to snag something I love right away, it’s gone when I get back.

Dress: Pink Rose, Volunteers of America Thrift, $4.99

Belt: Volunteers of America Thrift, $4.99

Necklace: SONOMA life + style (available at Kohl’s), gift from my mother. I couldn’t find the exact necklace but there’s something similar available here.

That brings this outfit’s total cost to a whopping $9.98 plus tax.

What do you think? Any thrifting tips for clothes shopping? What are your tricks for scoring a bargain?

Easter Morning

We got up this morning and found that the Easter Bunny had left this…he and I worked it out in advance because I told him we were going to the sunrise service this year. He’s a good guy, real accommodating.

Our church held their sunrise service at the cemetery which I think is really cool…I love the reminder that because of Jesus, death has lost its power over us…

After the service, we took a walk through to see the old graves. The earliest tombstone we could find was dated 1838. I think if I was going to be buried, I’d like it if someone held an Easter service near my tombstone. I just don’t think there’s anything more hopeful than that.

Bundled up in the chilly Easter morning…

When we got back to the church this morning, I slipped into the sanctuary before the service and just sat in a pew in the dark, looking up at the skylight, smelling the Easter lilies and staring at the cross. It was a quiet moment and I was so aware of the presence of God. Like the rest of my life, I so often rush through prayer, like it’s something to check off a list. But this morning I felt like I could just sit, without really knowing what to say.

And then we had a wonderful Easter breakfast with our congregation.

Mad for Madigan: The Fuzzier Side of Easter

Easter 059
Dear Readers,
Today I’m hosting an Easter post because Mommy is too lazy. I had a very confusing Easter, in case anyone is wondering. The ‘rents woke up at o’dark thirty to discuss the possibility of attending something called “a sunrise service.” I would just like to point out that it was raining bears and elephants outside (if you think cats and dogs don’t get along, you haven't seen bears and elephants together) and no one was going to be able to see the sun do any actual rising. Whatevs. No one asked for the dog’s opinion. Although, hilariously, Dad actually did use me as an excuse to go to the regular service. “Don’t want to leave Madigan alone too long,” he said and rolled over and went back to sleep. Thanks, Daddy-o. I’m feelin’ the love. Anyhoo, here’s the Easter wrap-up.
Mom and Dad dyed eggs. I was not involved. Translate: Scroll down to see more pictures of moi.

After the church service today and some kind of event having to do with eating (once again, I was not invited), they finally took me for a jaunt.

Also, I looked awesome thanks to my pimp Easter scarf from Aunt Zoey!
Daddy climbed on the jungle gym and was, in general, suuuuuuper lame.

So there you have it, folks. Easter was grand. Mommy walked around humming hymns all day and I got to go outside to sniff Dandelions. Life = Swell.

‘Til next time,
Mad
