moh-tuh-vey-shuhn, noun, from the medieval latin mōtīvus

Uhhh, you know how bloggers, lots of bloggers, get into a rhythm and a schedule? Like they post every day and they plan ahead and work it all out? This is not one of those posts. I just needed someone to talk to.

Motivation

I am really flagging when it comes to my personal motivation lately. I have a reading list the size of Mars and the end of summer is looming ALREADY and I can’t summon the energy to clean the apartment or empty my inbox or study or ANYTHING. I want to be successful, I want to buckle down and get stuff done. But right now I feel like I’m just watching the calendar pages floating away like they do on old Saturday morning cartoons and I just want to stop the clock for another five or six weeks. WHEW.

I just needed to get that out there into the universe. This weekend, I plan to clean the apartment until it squeaks. And then maybe that reading list will seem more manageable somehow. I just can’t think inside the mess.

Alright. Make me feel better. What helps you get re-motivated when you’re in a slump?

love, elizabeth

Hi there!

When I feel severely unmotivated I like to take a step back, take a deep breath, and make myself a mug of tea. I then write down all the things that need to be taken care of and prioritize. Then, I try to make it game. That usually picks me back up.

You'll find your motivation (:

Funny, I blogged today about that feeling of having lost your spark. Moving always helps me, a quick walk, running up and down the stairs a few times, star jumps! But sometimes it's really hard to shake.... It always passes though! Like Krystenn said, you'll find it again!

Hey Elizabeth!

I'm in grad school with tons of work. Whenever I get unmotivated, I think about everything I've done to get here and it usually minimizes the amount of work I seem to have in front of me. I also get caffeinated and try to get moving.

Thanks!
Mary

well, currently, if we were anywhere near each other, i would probably be watching those saturday cartoons with you because i've been feeling the exact same way!!

however, i can usually get motivated again if i take things one day at a time and set easy goals instead of nebulous ones like: "clean entire house" (haha, i set this goal all the time).

my husband helps me with realizing that's a bit unachievable...which is really a relief!
