Ask a Veterinarian

AskAVet

Have you ever wondered why your dog licks your face or why your cat likes string? Are you worried about something your pet is doing or wondering if you can do more to keep them healthy? Have an important pet health question? Want to ask a vet a question? Always wondered about something related to your pet but were too afraid to ask? Here’s your chance!

My awesome neighbor Melissa is a practicing veterinarian in the Columbus area and she has kindly agreed to answer YOUR pet questions here!

This is the first in a new series of posts I’m hosting called Ask-an-Expert.

So now it’s your turn. Share your pet questions below. Melissa’s answers will be up next week!

So…what have you always wanted to ask a vet?

love, elizabeth

What kind of dog and age of dog would you recommend for a family with two kids(4 and 2) and another dog that is 13 but every friendly. Our other dog passed away a year ago from cancer and I am finally ready to help another dog find a home.

I'll try to make this short! Our two cats are not getting along after taking 1 cat to the groomer. We've tried pretty much everything the internet says...Feliway diffusers, separating them, exposing them to each other's smells, etc. Right now the aggressive cat is on amitryptline after consulting with 2 vets. It's been about 6 days on the medication. When do you think the medication will be at a therapeutic level where we can start trying to allow them to have minimal contact again?

Thanks for this, Elizabeth! This is a cool idea! btw, we should hang out sometime. Would you and Kyle like to check out the Worthington farmer's market and La Chateline sometime?

My cat doesn't like any wet food, but he seems to drink a lot of water. How hard should I try to get him to eat wet food? Do you have any suggestions for my finicky cat?

So, my cat has really bad breath. Like, it's rank. And he's always had it. One of my other cat friends told me it's not normal for cats to have gross breath and it might be an infection, so of course I panicked and googled everything about what that could possibly be, but of everything I found, the only symptom he has is the breath. He still eats all the time and seems happy and fine otherwise. I mean, he throws up a lot, but that's just been hairball stuff lately... are these things related?

This is a cool idea for a blogging series. I don't have any questions as I have my own personal vets to ask but I look forward to asking questions of the other experts!
